Know the weight of a good Letter of Support

Recently a client asked me to give them a list of documents beyond the funder’s requirements to strengthen their grant submissions. My feedback was to include a strong Letter of Support in every application whether it is a requirement or not – and make it specific to that funding request.

A strong Letter of Support will provide credibility for your organization’s project, bring confidence to the funder in their investment consideration and show community backing for the project.

Having received some strong “testimonials of support” from clients myself, here are the elements that were included:

  • Illustrating the weight of working with IMPACT Grant Writing LLC : “Maureen didn't just hand us a list of grants — she built us a real strategy. Every opportunity in the portfolio was vetted against clear criteria: mission alignment, funder behavior, and realistic likelihood of success. Alongside each prospect came a strategy brief with concrete guidance on positioning, storytelling, and potential partners for Letters of Support. That level of detail changed how we show up to every submission.”

  • Detailing the outcomes: “What really stood out was the quality of what (IMPACT Grant Writing) found. Of the 32 prospects identified, roughly 75% were open to unsolicited applications — more than double what we typically see in the current landscape. That's not a small thing. It means we're spending our energy on opportunities that are actually within reach.”

  • Including an endorsement: “If your nonprofit is serious about building a smarter, more sustainable grant program, I'd recommend IMPACT Grant Writing without hesitation.”
